Answer:
Simply call them. Here's why. Aside from the reality that you need a job, you have your scheduling just as they have theirs. Sure they are busy, but so are you. Thus you should bear no need to postpone your list of prospective plans. You must move on... But as you say, you really want this job. Thus... Call them, state that you interviewed and were told you will receive a follow up but did not as suggested would occur. Tell who interviewed you. They may connect you to that person that you may get a response first-hand. Or they cannot. And if they do not, simply ask about the indications from whosoever is in charge of hiring, because a week has passed. That is all you can do. Any interviewer in his right mind today should know that while people need jobs, especially those who show a passion for a given job, should be as well-appointed as he or she expects the interviewee to be, at least show a sense of economy on behalf of the interviewee -- you. You should not want to sound desperate, this is true, but you don't want to come off as prematurely beholden to anyone either. See? In other words, don't start a pattern of pandering (kissing up to people). Employers are as confused as the candidates who are applying, if not more confused. And so what this is, is that so many people in positions of authority have lost the human touch. They just don't now what to do either. Circumstances today have conditioned people to rely too much on computers and resumes and references and all these sorts of things and do not share a skill for seeing into the candidate, sizing them up, thus no longer do they bear the skills themselves as employers to be capable of reading people as people. Further, they are skeptical about hiring new people who in effect are strangers, but they dare say that this is the way they feel -- especially companies who cater to dedicated markets like that of Pets or Animal Husbandry.
