Has anyone had or is anyone having rotator cuff surgery?

I am Worried About Surgery, Has Anyone Had An Impinged, Torn Tendon With A Torn Rotator Cuff?

  • My surgery is Tuesday and If anyone else has had this done, what was your recovery time?

  • Answer:

How did you hurt your Shoulder? The surgery is not too bad but there will be a period of know use and physical therapy. It will be worth it though as I am sure you have had allot of pain. The recovery can take anywhere from 3 to 6 months, depending on the size of the tear and other factors. You may have to wear a sling for 1 to 6 weeks after surgery. Pain is usually managed with medications. When you can return to work or play sports will depend on the surgery that was performed, but it will usually take several months to resume your regular activities. good Luck!

In 15 years of working in Physical Rehab I have never seen a Pt with a torn Rotator cuff make it to chronic pain. That means they get better, get off meds and go back to work. I suspect that a hard worker like you will back back at the computer using both fingers in less than a month. Piece of cake. Good luck. OMnT

YOU SHOULDN'T BE TOO CONCERNED SINCE THAT SEEMS LIKE IT'S NOT TO DIFFICULT OF A PROCEDURE. GOOD LUCK & COMEBACK SOON.

No Surgery for me unless physical therapy fails ! I guess we could take a look at Jonh McCain , his rotator cuffs are destroyed from torture , no surgery , and he can`t lift his arms above his shoulders ? I mention this because last summer I feel from a 10 foot ladder onto a concrete pad . Hit directly on my right shoulder first ! Very intense pain , went to the emergency room , the 1st thing I was told was "you need surgery" ; and their reason " well you can`t lift you arm over your head without pain" ? I said " I understand that , as it has only been about 30 minutes since I fell , and if there was instant self healing I wouldn`t be here ! This was not even the doctor telling me this , it was the admitting nurse ! I said I`ll just wait for the X-ray , and she said "you can`t see a torn rotator cuff in an X-Ray ? Then the doctor came in , told him my story , and he said to get into a hospital gown , Why ? because he was sending me to have X-Rays` and scheduling an appointment with a Ortho surgeon ? All this because I couldn`t lift my arm above my head after falling off a ladder ? I declined any further test , and ask for my bill , went home , and now 10 months later , arms over my head , no pain , and for sure no unnecessary scars ! To operate just to have me fill an open slot on the doc`s waiting list , NOT ! Hopefully you have a second opinion on having surgery ? If you must have the surgery , God Speed in your recovery , love ya`` girlfriend , hurry back ......
