Has anyone had or is anyone having rotator cuff surgery?

Has anyone here ever had "rotator cuff surgery"?

  • or do you know anything about this surgery?

  • Answer:

I have a real-life friend who had this done... it took her about two months of recovery and physical therapy to get back to "normal." She didn't find the surgery or the pain following it to be too bad... it was all easily managed. You're young, so it will be uncomfortable, but not so awful. Older people have a harder time with it. Edit: Be sure to discuss pain management with your doctor before the surgery. You want a doctor who will be "briefly liberal" with pain medication.

I know several people who have had the surgery, the last one I talked to a couple of weeks ago, and she had, had a very bad experience with it, but my friend John had very good success with it. John had very little pain, and recovered within a couple of weeks, but he had it done as soon as he knew that it was needed, while Mary Ann continued to work with it for several months. I would suggest that you talk to people in your area who have had it, and find out who the best surgeons is to do this. if you go to your local Hospital and talk to the nurses on that ward, they know who the best doctors are for any particular ailment.

When the rotator cuff [where the ball of the bone connects to the " cuff" of the body] is torn, surgery may be required to reattach the tendon to the bone... several months it will slow process if you don't have physical therapy to strenghten your tendons
