It depends on the wound what colour the discharge is, and the surrounding tissue of your knee. It the area around it is, red, hot to touch increases in pain, and or inflamed and or has a green tinge to the discharge go see a Dr as wound is infected. If the wound is very wet, try idorsorp powder and a dry dressing over the top. cream is only good if wound is dry, as it tends to over moisten it, would be a good idea to see a RN in your area or pharmacist who can tell you what would suit the wound best by looking at it. Its hard to tell what to put on it without a visual. Other thing is to assist in wound healing if your a smoker stop or cut down, as decreases blood circulation and ensure you have a balanced diet, if you are not sure about this, take some multi vitamin supplements. hope that helps some.

Along time ago, and mean long time ago, I was 12 years old riding a bike at high speed down the dirt road that ran past our house. The part of the road I was zooming down was a good sized hill. I slid on a hefty stone and made my way over the handle bar. I scraped my knee to the bone (literally). I never told my parents for about aweek. It wasn't healing to well at all. I was scared to death of Doctors. It was oozy and nasty. I kept putting meds on hit, and nothing helped. Dad took me to the Dr. against my will. He said there really wasn't anything that could be done as there was no skin or meat to work with. I had to let it gradually fill in with scar tissue. I thought it was infected or I would have never told my parents about it. The oozy mess was just the bodies natural fluids aiding in the healing process. A neighbor gave my dad some bag balm. I put it on two times, once a d for two days. I put it on right after a shower (couldn't get it in the tub it hurt to much). In just two days it was beginning to heal. Because bag balm has mercury in it I wouldn't advise over use of the product. I don't feel it would hurt for a few applications. If you keep the wound covered, I would keep a very thin layer of gauze on it as the air is a good healer. If you will be active or around to much dirt and uncleanes, for that time I would put a heavier gauze covering on it. Solid tape don't help heal. It keeps the wound to moist and moist breads germs. And when you are sure that you won't get dirt on it leave it uncovered. Put a light cover on it before going to be to keep lint and stuff out of it. Hope this helps you some

You're doing the right things. Keep it covered, continually wash it with soap and water (I suggest antibacterial soap) to keep it clean. Daily application of Methiolate or Peroxide will help keep it clean as well. Keep putting the antibiotic cream on it as well, this will keep it from infection. If any swelling or redness starts to arise, it may be in your best interest to see your family doctor for antibiotics, but otherwise, you're doing just fine. The wound will seep - it's just part of the healing process! Cheers! Cory, RN

you need to let the air get at the injury, cover it when absolutely nessary,,,so just cover when going out, and loosely not tight,,,,,when at home remove bandage and let the air dry it out,,will take awhile and will have a scar,,but there is stuff you can buy that will lessen the scar,,,talk to pharmasist..about ointment for this
