    OWN is the result of a stock deal/transaction Oprah made with Discovery Communications (the corporation which owns/operates the Discovery Health Channel.) The deal is, Oprah contributes 50% of her Oprah.com website to Discovery, in exchange she gets 50% editorial control of the Discovery Health Channel. The network, though renamed OWN, will still be a JOINT venture. 50% is owned by Harpo Inc. and 50% owned by Discovery Communications. The successful shows that are already part of the line-up will continue, along with other new shows Oprah has a hand in choosing.

OWN is being advertised as New Channel. Not a renaming of an existing channel. Your carrier may be replacing Discovery Health with OWN, but they really shouldn't have to. At any rate, I think you are mistaken.
