Organizations to help the disabled?

My sister is disabled, married to an abusive man in Springdale AR , are there organizations there to help her?

  • Answer:

the police. No disrespect, but instead of complaining about it on yahoo...maybe you should do something to try and get her out of there. Call Social Services, the local police in her area...something. Maybe you could search google or yahoo for some organizations if you feel that is the best way. Either way, good luck.

Disabled or not, there are many organizations to help her out - social services, police, domestic abuse hotlines, etc. Since she is disabled, you may also try contacting her local Center for Independent Living (CIL) to get advice on how she may be able to live independently without her husband. What is her disability, and what is the severity? Regardless of that, I'm sure the CIL or a local disability advocacy group would be able to step in and help her out.

If she isn't ready to leave him, you're wasting your time. It's her battle. If she is asking for help to leave him, that's one thing. If not, you are fighting a losing battle. Might as well just move ahead with your life and wait for her to wake up and smell the coffee. Just be there for her when she needs you, be cordial to the jerk, and remain cordial to him even after they do break up, because she may be like many other women caught in the cycle and go back to him.

There are always organizations that are there to help spouses get out of abusive relationships and they do help the disabled, also notify the proper authorities as to what is going on because the law all over the country states if a police officer sees signs of abuse and the victim states that somebody did hit them then the police have to arrest the person that they suspect is abusive even if the victim doesn't want the abuser to go to jail, it is out of their hands, the police must follow the law. Plus the programs that help the victim of abuse can help her with obtaining a divorce from the bully and will do what they can to help her leave as independent of a life as possible. There are restraining orders that can be obtained and so forth. Good luck in helping your sister get away from that bully of a husband.
