Have you ever taken a grandparent on a vacation?

By the time I was married, I only had one set of grandparents. My grandfather, on my dad's side died before I was born. I am the "caboose" on both sides of the family. The other set of grandparents were in their sixties when I married. I often invited them to picnics and outings, but they declined. I did take on the job of cooking all holiday meals for my grandmother who had done this all my mother's adult life. My mother, and her sister could not cook! I do not think they ever baked a single cake, nor cookie either! My dad, was the cook in our home out of necessity! So, I got to cook for them on holidays and special occasions. This continued long after they passed away and ended when my last sibling died, four years ago. I sort of gave them some rest time when I was a child though. They owned two Sinclair service stations and I would pump the customers gas, check their oil and air pressure in the tires. Then, they got their windshield washed! It was full service and they got full service too. Generally, I could handle the flow and they would get to eat their lunch without interruption. I also enjoyed closing up the stations too. That meant sweeping and mopping while my grandmother emptied the till and locked away everything. I hope I helped her because she was a good woman and I still miss her words of wisdom.

No, but i think this is a very nice idea and it just shows you that some grandkids do care about their grandparents. I wish someone would take me on vacation, but i never get asked.

No as my grandparents lived 2000 miles away..but I have been the grandparent taken on a cross country trip in an RV..My grandkids think I should go every time because "I made the long trip fun"

This query made me think of Chevy Chase's 'Vacation' movie with his grandma strapped to his car's roof ... excellent! If I had g'parents this is what I would do.

Kind of. The trip was more for my grandmother than for us. We took her across the state to see her youngest son. He'd had a very high temperature when he was small and it affected his brain. My grandmother had to put him into a hospital. My grandmother was getting very old and we wanted her to see her son one more time before her death. Sadly, he didn't really recognize her, he thought my mother was his mother.

My grandparents came out to see me in the middle east many years ago. They complained about the heat and humidity but they had a great time. When they were on holiday together you could see the youth in them emerge. They were cuddling and canoodling, I have never seen that side of them before...brought a smile to my face.

NO, My grandparents are not alive and we lived in a different State, If they were still alive I don't think they would go anyway, they were homebodies and don't go anywhere. My grandkids are too young to take us anywhere but that would be nice if we're still around!

We used to take two aunts with us on trips. It almost always ended in some kind of argument. Some folks are just born travelers, and some are not.
