Where are there places in southern Maine to go camping?

Tent camping recommendations in Southern Maine?

  • We are planning to go tent camping this summer in Southern Maine. Does anyone have any favorites? Does anyone have any advice on places to stay away from?

  • Answer:

I agree with Sara. Sebago wins it hands down. Lots of options, very vacationer-oriented, not necessarily tourist-trappy, either. Has what you need as well as the stuff you didn't know you needed. Tourist traps available if you like 'em (sometimes you just can't resist). Far enough inland that the ocean breeze doesn't freeze ya, but close enough for quick day trip to the Atlantic, too. Waterparks to Walmart, that's your place to go.

http://www.campmaine.com/home.php Are you looking for actual camping, or campground camping? If you've got kids, stick near Old Orchard, Saco, Kennebunk area where you'd be near the beach. There are also a lot of museums in southern maine. That website will be a lot of help for you as far as attractions in the area. This is a nice campground in Old Orchard--http://www.gocamping.com/Pages/oobcamphome.htm Good luck, and have fun!
