Any good forests for camping in?

Is camping safe in the forests of Michigan?

  • Answer:

Michigan is home to numerous mosquitoes and ticks. Aside from the occasional glimpse of an owl, a raccoon, a opossum, a coyote, a deer, or maybe even an elk, you're not going to encounter much else.

Camping in a wild forest is banned for a reason. There have been known to be bears in the western regions of Michigan. I would prefer you stay away from there, or camp in the designated grounds. I know this because I, myself, have camped near the west. Although rare, but on occasion there have also been Endangered Mountain Lion sightings throughout the western regions, close to the Traverse City area. These particular mountain lions are dangerous. It would be best, for yourself, if you did not camp anywhere outside the designated grounds unless you have experience in the area. I would say about 3+ years of experience would be well. If I was your parents I would be skeptical as well.As the more remote the area you are camping in, the harder and longer it will take to find and extricate you to medical assistance. On a side note, there has also been wolf sightings in the area as well. I'm not trying to scare you into thinking that you shouldn't go, but it would be wise not to travel without someone whom is educated about the wilderness. Safe Travels. If you have any further questions, please email me [email protected]. I would be glad to help.

Its completely safe, if your smart. You must tell someone exactly where you are going or near to where you are going, and how long you will be gone. You should bring a radio and check in every once in a while. if you are staying a few nights check in before you go to bed, a few weeks every three nights. Bury your food far away from camp, in case of bears. Put out your fire at night if near really dry dense forest. Bring a compass and a map of the area. Bring a gun just in case, or a big hunting knife or some sort of protection. Hope i helped.
