What are some good, cheap camping grounds in southern California?

Camping grounds in southern california by water?

  • I want to go camping with like 10 people, I need a place by water that's swimmable(clean) like a clean lake or something and I'd prefer if they had restrooms, or just toilets, ...show more

  • Answer:

Try Lake Puddingstone in Bonelli Park (San Dimas) or Prado Regional (Pomona/Chino). They are good for groups but both require reservations, which are filling up fast. Azusa Canyon (Azusa) has restrooms and a nice river to swim in. No reservations are needed but fire is not permitted. Lions Camp (Ojai) has a beautiful river. Santa Anita Canyon (Sierra Madre) doesn't have anywhere to swim but there is a nice creek deep enough to splash around in and some really cool water falls. It does involve a bit of hiking though.

Lake Tahoe. There is a campsite there that has an ice cream parlor, a bike rental and repair shop, even a little hotel. The lake is huge, and is a lot like the beach but only has ripples. They also have cabins.
