International Relations or Cultural Anthropology?

Cultural Anthropology: Is there a form of comparative gastronomy similar to comparative linguistics which attempts to find historical relations of different cuisine?

  • I first thought of this after I saw the similarity between Afghan/Persian/North Indian food. Challow further northwest is Pulao in India, for example (and pilaf in other countries). What are some more interesting cuisine etymologies? What do we know about the cuisine and cookery of ancient societies? Do language isolates correlate with cuisine isolates?
