    The Adirondacks is the largest contiguous wild park in the lower 48 states, bigger than Yellowstone and Yosemite COMBINED. Just look at a map of the place. It covers most of upstate New York and the northwest portion has almost no roads. It is so remote that people used to often just disappear into the woods, never to be found. If you are willing to walk or canoe the distance, you will have no trouble finding solitude up there. Yes there are many people that go there but most never get more than a few hundred feet from the roads. The deep woods and lakes are peaceful and remote.
