How long do you think the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3 will still be around for?

lol what the ps2 was never discountinued they still make them believe it or not. oh and i think they will be around for awhile still.

Maybe around two to four years, the new Xbox seems really horrible, many people are already saying it is a horrible system based off of what Sony has released of the system so far. As for the PS3, it just depends on how well it is developed.

I think as another poster said, it's best to look at what happened in the past. Sony already promised a 10 year life cycle for ps3, just like ps2, which actually lasted longer than 10 years. So that would put ps3 to be discontinued in 2016. But not that long after ps3 came out, ps2 support dwindled a lot, and it really just ended up with crappy party games, and sports games. I think a lot will depend on how many people will still use ps3 after ps4 comes out. It will certainly continue to be supported by 3rd parties for in one way or another, for as long as they think they can sell the games.. But what kind of support we can't say for sure. PS2 did get ps3 ports for a while after the ps3 came out, but they were very sub standard, and kind of crappy. I expect the same to happen with PS3, after ps4 has been out for a while.. As for Xbox 360, this is much harder to predict, Xbox was discontinued before xbox 360 actually came out much sooner than intended, because of supply issues with the GPU. Which forced microsoft to release an unfinished console plagued with problems (I'm not being a fanboy I love 360, but that's just a fact) On top of this, the original Xbox was never hugely popular, certainly not when you compare its sales to that of PS2 This time around, however their's no such supply problems, and xbox 360 is massively popular. So one of two things is likely to happen. The first one Microsoft will keep making it for as long as they can sell it, and the second one, they'll discontinue it to promote 720 sales. The second one is much riskier though, because its a good way of losing customers to Sony. or Nintendo. I think Microsoft will continue to support 360 in some way for atleast another year though, perhaps longer. All will be revealed though, during the next 12 months.

At the next gen they will be out

Not for long I am afraid. Lets learn from history, the Ps2 was discontinued after the ps3 came out, and the Ps3 had backwards compatibility so it could play the PS2 games without a doubt. It did so with the fat models and slowly those models were stopped after people got involved in playing the PS3 games, and no one had time to play the PS2 games anymore. (the graphics sucked compared to ps3 and most games weren't multiplayer) So yeah Ps4 and the new xbox will have to have some type of backwards compatibility inorder to attract customers towards them. So people could have a sense of hope that all those games which they bought for 60 each wouldn't go to waste. Then eventually you will see that they will stop those models which can play old games (by old I mean Ps3 and xbox 360 games). BUT by that time they would have come up with something better, faster and more likeable. So, in short no they wont die out that quickly,but they won't stay in their original shapes for long (PS4 will have the exact same features as the PS3 plus more additional features) but people will be offered more on the new system compared to the old one. It will make it look like a pretty good deal.
