  Talking to people is not enough. Read books in the Church, at the Wizard (if you see this house already) and at the Herbalist. This will increase your spirituality and faith and should unlock quests. To get more money, collect grown plants dotted around the word and sell them on. You can also fish and sell your fishes at the Market place (you need to buy a rod at the Market place first). You can also recruit up to 3 Sims to be part of your Guild and start fighting with people. Have a look also in your Story trail (click on the open book with the exclamation mark and go to the pot of ink and quill) to select your next moves.
