first, mario kart its one of the best options to buy! good for you, and about your question, you dont NEED the USB wi-fi for wii to play, but its an option, but if you have a wireless connection to internet on your laptop you can set up it finding an accses point and writing your WEP key of the laptop on your wii set up menu (internet option) and thats it! ready to play! c ya friend! hope this help you!
