Will the Wii U play old wii games on the Wii U tablet?

No, unfortunately not. But it is still backwards compatible with all Wii games/accessories. The Wii U features the all new Nintendo Network, Nintendo's next, amazing attempt to jump online. Finally no more stupid friend codes which have been replaced by Nintendo Network ID's. This allowed you to easily register friends, and contact them. It also features Miiverse, a hybrid of Twiiter and a Forum Site. You can chat, post, screenshot, ask for help, and much more all on the handy little app, which in reading many reviews, tends to be the most popular feature of the system. Also, incase you didn't know you can play certain games (i.e. New Super Mario Bros. U, Assains Creed III, Black Ops II, and upcoming titles) solely on the gamepad at any moment. This means if your playing a game, and someones wants to use the TV, can just say "No problem! I'll just keep playing on the gamepad." And if your lazy you could just never turn on the TV to play a game. Or better yet use the TV button on the gamepad to control the power, volume, and input of your TV directly with your gamepad. You can also link to your cable/satellite box to change the TV guide and browse channels. No. The Wii U can play the old Wii games, but only with the Wiimotes. (The same way the Wii Played GC games with the GC controllers and not the wiimotes). - 17R3W
