How do I get rid of carpet stains myself?

  • I want to buy or rent a carpet cleaning machine and get rid of the stains.. Any ideas?

    Not everything works on all stains. However, I have added Oxy Clean to my rug cleaning solution and this seems to have done a better job at getting out most stains and the over-all appearance of the carpet.

That's fine. They do a good job. Not as good as a commercial unit, though. As for cleaners, it depends upon what the "stain" is. I have about 20 different cleaners for various types of stains. When I have an unknown spot stain, I just have to use a little experience and graduated trials until I find something that works. There is not one cleaner that cleans everything. Most rely on the solvent (water, petroleum distillates, alcohol), detergency, the pH (acid or alkaline), or whether it adds or removes oxygen from the stain.
