I need to know some facts about Guinea Pigs.?
-
I am planning on getting a guinea pig, some time next week. But I need to know a few things about them such as: - what they eat - how big there cage should be etc...
-
Answer:
They eat plain pellets, hay and veggies... the hay and pellets need to be in the cage at all times and they need 1 cup of veg everyday, romaine lettuce, red lettuce, spinach, kale, etc. They also need vitamin c, human chewable tablets 25mg's is ok. Don't feed pet shop rubbish, drops, licks and sprays don't work. Don't feed pet shop treats they contain things which can make them ill e.g milk. They're herbivores. You need to get something like a C&C cage go to www.guineapigcages.com to see/read about them. They need to live inside and pet shop cages arn't big enough for 1... they're herd animals and should be kept in pairs so they're NO way big enough for 2.

Firstly, always get Guinea Pigs in pairs, Guineas get very lonely on their own and it can lead to health problems. Make sure you get 2! There is a whole lot of foods that they will eat; especially bread. http://www.kornage.co.uk/feeding_guinea_pigs.htm The website above also covers all other topics you need for your Guinea Pig. I highly recommend reading through all of it. ______________________________ If you are looking for an inside cage, C+C cages are what i highly recommend. They give huge amounts of space and are great for Guinea Pigs. http://www.guineapigcages.com I do not recommend getting any other cage that isn't around the same size as a C+C cage. Keeping Guineas in small cages is INHUMANE. They love exercise and running around so make sure it is provided. You can get an indoor play pen like this: http://www.pet-dog-cat-supply-store.com/shop/shop_image/product/06ca83accc0c224ad05bc54b5a43c75b.jpg or just let the them roam free for a while in the house! __________________________ If you have space in the garden, buy a run as they ABSOLUTELY LOVE being on the grass outside - http://www.baumanns.ie/images/Run-with-Lid.jpg ___________ If you want to put your Guineas outside then get a cage like this http://www.crazysales.com.au/products_pictures/3/RabbitCage-1_01_L.jpg or http://www.rainbows.co.uk/shop/images/5footcage.jpg or finally; http://img.alibaba.com/photo/101703620/Rabbit_Guinea_Pig_Chicken_Hen_Coop_House_Cage_Hutch_Run.jpg You need big space for Guinea Pigs so make sure you provide it! __________ You do not necessarily have to buy a cage. If you have some bits and bobs lying around, it is very easy to make up a good cage or run for Guineas provided that you make sure there are no gaps. _________________ Good luck with your Guinea Pigs; please take my advice as i have experienced Guinea Pigs in all different types of cages and know a good deal about their livelihood and behaviour _____________ Thanks a lot, hope i helped! :-D

Guinea pigs should be fed pellets or muesli but pellets are better because they can not selective feed, they should also be fed a small quantity of fresh fruit and veg with every meal such as carrot, apple, kale ect. never feed a guinea pig iceburg lettuce and never feed them food that has been frozen or cooked, hay is essential in a guinea pigs diet and should always be available, they need to be put in a exercise run each day so that they can graze on the grass, buy the biggest cage you can afford because guinea pigs love to run about you might also want to consider getting a pair or a group of guinea pigs because they are sociable animals and like to be kept with their own kind Hope this helps

this website is really good have a look it has EVERYTHING!! :) XX www.diddly-di.fsnet.co.uk/piggy-care.h...
The cage should be about 1x2metres. They eat -carrots(love em) -cos lettuce(no other lettuce) -apple(not the seeds) -baby carrots -carrot tops -grapes Bedding Shredded paper is cheap, safe and they absolutely loooove playing around in it.

there are plenty of useful websites! piggys love cucumber, should have regular pellets/hay and grazing time, and not too much acidic food like apple, NOT citrus/lettuce, and no unknown flowers. always give them water, fresh, ignore what commercial pet shops say about vitamin drops, a biggish cage and they like to have a friend. if you get a boy + girl, keep them seprate unless you want little piggies, and then don't let them breed until about 4 months, but before 10 months for the female, their sexual maturity age is 4 weeksish. any more info wanted? email me: [email protected], i'm interested too!

Guinea pigs love fruit and veggies like carrots and apples. They also like to eat alfalfa grass and guinea hay. One thing that's important is that you give them vitamins and you can get that in liquid that you just add to their water daily. They like to run around so think large like a rabbit cage.
