How do I start a small scale rat rescue?

    I started a guinea pig rescue from scratch, its very small sacle but loads of people know about us!! Firstly, get a catchy name (Im 'the guinea garden') + tell as many people as you can. Word of mouth can do wonders. secondly, ADVERTISE!! I posted in local newspapers and postoffice windows. Thirdly, make a website. I made one at freewebs.com, and we got 3 people interested in us having their piggies (thats 5 piggies in total from them) and lastly, go to car boot sales, yard sales and auctions. Get lots of cages and carriers- its way cheaper that way! =) xx

First you need to determine why you are doing this. Do you have the funds available to provide food/bedding/cages for all the rats you hope to "rescue"? Will you adopt out the rats to good homes? How will you know if a home is a good one? What happens if you take in a rat that needs medical attention? Do you have the means to get it proper vet care? I don't know any rat rescues, but I just thought I'd mention Craigslist.com. There are many people trying to get rid of their rats. You could post a listing for free and have them contact you to get rid of their rats. Best of luck!
