What are the advantages and disadvantages of hen farming?

  Advantages: Battery Cage- Cheap to run once set up, can get more hens fitted into a shed and laying Barn System- Get bigger and healthier hens, reduced medicine bills, Free Range- goes down better with public, isn't going to get banned anytime soon, bigger eggs, healthier hens Organic- Get sub for it, public demand Disadvantages: Battery Cage- going to get banned in UK later this year, public don't like it, increased chance of illness Barn systems- Expensive to set up, expensive to keep warm, vulnerable to bad weather Free Range- More expensive to set up, more cost to maintain and run Organic- Harder to get a hold of organic feed to feed hens and more expensive, public demand might slump as recession makes it harder for them to spend that little bit extra for organic Barn System-
