If you're racing on my freeway, I really hope you'll shift to park before you kill me or yourself.

Go legit. Street racing is dangerous. But to answer your question you down shift when you are about to take a corner. Do not down shift when you are flooring it. For example you are in 4th gear, you are traveling at 100mph ,but a hairpin is coming up. You down shift to 1st or 2nd. Which ever gear you think you can take the corner in or which ever gear it requires. You do not down shift under these circumstances. You are drag racing down a straightaway at 120mph but you are in 5th gear. You want to downshift to 3rd so you do it. That is a no no. Not unless you want to break something. I hope you know down shifting when you want to slow down or come to a complete stop. I hope you know that.

No One here promotes Street Racing. In fact, if you believe you have a heart of a racer, you know that responsibility goes first... do it properly. If by Freeway Racing, what about finding a local strip dedicated to drag racing for one. As for the gear downshift changes, most of the time, 1st gear is no longer used. 1st is most of the time used for vehicle launch, since the gear ratio on 1st is properly calibrated from a standing-start. it's best to end your downshifting with 2nd gear and then come to a complete stop... even if you were circuit racing, most vehicles enter the slowest corners on 2nd gear... 1st gear is still used but rarely... try observing F1 cars as they race the tighest hairpin corner in the Circuit 'de Monaco. Some enter at first gear, but quickly upshift to second... Again, no street racing... okay?
