How can I start a career in auto racing?

  • I know most F1, F2 drivers start in karting as little kids, but the problem is I am 25 right now. I know the next step is Formula Ford, Formula BMW, and Formula Renault in Europe and ...show more

Your best bet while disappointing will be to while shooting for getting into F1 or F2 would be to accept that at 25 it is unlikely that you will get to that level. You'll want to start looking at local short tracks around your home as well as enrolling into driving schools. If the thought of NASCAR has ever crossed your mind I'll leave you with this piece of information. Unless you have money no matter how talented you are, you will not get the chance at a ride. I would think that this would also be true in open wheel racing mainly because of the world economy right now. You'll also want to look at getting a manager/public relations person to help you get your name out in the industry. Hope that this will help you a little bit

at your age, even if you have been in professional racing up until now, it would be very difficult to get into Formula 1. A good choice to become a professional would be to look at a touring car/soprts car career. Many drivers in touring/sports cars have no real set age group. old veterans, against talented upstarts. oviously, its best to learn your craft at a younger age, so if you want to persue this, I would recommend starting ASAP. Yes, an advanced racing school is a great avenue to persue, but you will need to know vehicle terminology, how to setup the car, etc. Some schools will teach this, but you will need to do your homework to find out which ones. PS: i know you said not to adress financial costs, but it is worth noting that most touring car & sports car racing is cheaper than open wheel, and at your age, this is a win/win for starting up. If you can keep the sponsor money rolling in long enough, there is a higher probability of being paid to race than if you were in open wheel

As i said in your other question :P It is usless to start in karting at 25. You may want to practice but it's useless trying to start off from there. Look at some of the F1 drivers today. Robert Doornbos and Vitaly Petrov were 17 when they started and skipped karting into Formula Ford and other support series. All you need my friend is to get your name out there, much like the Need For Speed games. You need the money and you need Friends that can help you advance through the different Formula. If you start when your 25, the minimum age i guess when you can reach Formula 1 would be around 30 maybe even 29 if your lucky and good enough. But you need the right management and planning as well. :D
