I've ridden mine without the deck pad for months without any problems. You don't NEED a stomp/deck pad. It makes it a lot easier getting on and off of the lift, but you can manage without it. There's more to a snowboard then looks. I've seen some people with awesome gear suck on the hill, and I've seen people with second hand equipment do things that I wouldn't even try.
