Help with the Double loop in figure skating?

Help with single flip and single loop! Figure Skating?

  • I can do the entries but when I jump off of my toe pick, my other foot has a habit of going down before I complete the jumps. How can I stop this from happening?

  • Answer:

Assuming you're a ccw skater (if not, switch "right" for "left" and vice versa), you're not over your right side and that's your problem on both jumps. It's also a problem everyone has learning these 2 jumps since you can get away with not staying over your right side on the toeloop and sal, but not on these 2. 1 -Practicing backspins helps too (teaches you to stay over your right side in the landing position). 2 - One thing that helped me, tip of a coach's, was to imagine doing a loop-loop combination, meaning do a loop and immediately after take off into another loop. Same for flip-loop combo instead of just the flip. As long as you're getting (most of) the rotation, there is no problem to doing this. Since the loop take off is off the right leg, this will force you to stay more over your right side. Convince yourself you ARE going to do a loop-loop combo though no matter what, don't do this half-heartedly or this won't work. Sticking a loop behind your sal and toeloop will help those jumps too btw. 3 - You can do loops off-ice too btw, just jump on socks or running shoes that don't "stick" to the floor so you don't twist your knees (not wearing skates, you'll break an ankle doing that!)
