Can I have some tips for a double axel?

I can't get my axel?? tips?

  • Answer:

You might want to work on increasing your jump height. If you can get more power to your 'lift-off' it will make it easier to complete your rotations and actually land the jump.

You need a technically good figure skating coach and you need to practice this on and off the ice. It takes awhile to get an axel. Other rotational jumps should follow closely after. Your coach can put you on the harness and you should get the "feel" of the rotation. Practice spinning and checking out. Do once arounds. Make sure you are aware of your upper body. Does the coach have others your age who have jumps? These are not impossible to achieve. A good figure skating coach can teach most anyone to skate and jumps and spins are a part of skating. Age does not necessarily mean a coach is a "good" coach. Look at their students. If they are getting their jumps and passing tests; if they are competing; then hire this coach. Park districts hire coaches as a business; they do not know much about skating. If a coach has many good skaters of different ages; then he or she is more than likely a good coach.
