How to wax skis without a clamp or vise?

  • I'm planning to wax my skis, but I don't have a workbench to work on! I also don't have the space to get one. Does anybody know a way to prevent my skis from moving around ...show more

  • Answer:

When I used to race in high school, my parents had no idea they expense they were getting into. So needless to say, waxing before every race wasn't something they had in their budget. I ended up using the horses in the garage. (Wooden A-frames that people use as mobile work benches) Before doing that, I also used 2 folding chairs facing away from each other. The skis were laid upside down on the seat of the chairs, and the bindings got pinched between them. This is less than optimal as you have to try and move the iron around the backrest of the chair, but hey, it got the job done. Another method that I did when I was younger as I didn't have any strong rubber bands, was to snap my boot into the bindings. It helped to weigh down the ski so it didn't move as much, as well as activate the snow brakes to get them out of the way.
