Can a person's energy be given off by their personal objects?

When someone dies, their family members often want something that was personal and belonged to the one who has died. Heirlooms are often treasured not because of their monetary value but because of the connection with a person. The skeptics will say that is because of the memories the object evokes. But I suspect there is a bit more to it.

I dont know how it works but you can pick up information from an object. An example is a ring that I have that was my grandmas. We knew it was second hand, and my mum picked up a young couple in a car and a name but I forget. So I guess that would be energy of some kind?

No. Energy is not really a "thing". There is Kinetic energy (moving energy), which is defined as 1/2 mass times the square of the velocity. Since a persons objects have different mass, this doesn't apply. Potential energy is defined as the energy of a still object. There are a few formulas for different situations, but none of them involve "giving off" energy. We talk about heat transference through radiation as "giving off energy", but heat is heat, it wouldn't be unique from person to person.

This is called psychometry Psychometry is an alleged psychic power that enables one to divine facts by handling objects. Commonly, the psychic handles some jewelry or clothing, claims to be able to see or feel the object's aura, and begins shotgunning. Many psychic detectives claim to have psychometric powers. Skeptics explain this "power" as a matter of magical thinking, cold reading, subjective validation, and selective thinking. Easy to test and it fails to do better than random chance.

I like to think psychometry is valid for spiritual-minded folks, detectives, psychics, etc., but I have no first-hand knowledge of same.
