  • Answer:

It all depends on what spikes you own. For distance races, it is important for your spikes to have a cushioned heel and a flexible mid-sole as you are going to be running for up to 11 minutes in them. In distance races, spikes allow runners to have better traction and a bit more speed as they are able to "pull" themselves along. Sprinting spikes usually have little or no heel as most sprinters run on their toes. Thus, these spikes may be uncomfortable to run long distances in. ...But running distance races in running shoes is always your best bet if you are not sure.

it is all about Nike Milers for long distance spikes, and use 1/4" unless your coach absoultely won't let you. wear your MD spikes for the shorter races you do and get long distance spikes (recommending the Milers) for the longer races

yeah you'll be fine. i use the asics hyper ld and double up on the 1600 and 3200. a lot of people dont like spikes for that kind of distance, but it should be fine.
