    you can use cross country spikes for track and do just fine. however, I run on my toes for my entire 800, so I feel more comfortable in mid distance spikes. The only problem is that sometimes I can't use my track spikes in indoor because of the track surface. the difference: xc spikes: I can use my xc spikes for track. typically rubber more support longer spike length* track spikes: i can't use my track spikes for xc sometimes plastic light positioned so you're forced to run on your toes. shorter spike length* *you can always switch out the spikes

I run the 400 and the 800 and use mid distance spikes for both. With mid distance spikes, as opposed to cross country, there are more spikes on the shoe and the placement of the spikes are specific to mid distance. They offer more stability because you are running faster. However, as long as you are running on rubber, the difference between the two spikes should remain minimal.

There is a cross country spike? I thought spikes were for track. Anyways, you need to get mid distance spikes because they are for track and they have spikes on the bottom that grips on the the track better than cross country flats (I am assuming you meant flats). So cross country shoes are for cross country and track shoes are for track. Cant you them both on one pair of shoes.
