How to run during the winter months?

  • I know this sounds like a stupid question, but I was wondering if anyone could give me some advice. Well, I run Cross-Country and track and I'm a very talented runner. However, ...show more

I have the same problem, you could always just suck it up, bundle up and run outside which is good for you. Or sign up at your local gym. They always have a treadmill to run on. You can adjust speed or incline there and its good for mileage. other than that there's nothing you can really do. Unless you wanna do what im going yo do and join the swim team. But i don't know if you have a swim team during the winter like we do. alternating between biking, swimming and running is the best way to decrease time and get into the best shape of your life.

If you won't brave the snow, you're gonna be stuck running laps in the gym, just watch out for the basketballs. There's a small uni here that has an areana that is open for walking and running. It's concrete, but I'm scared of treadmills and loathe the cold. When that was being painted, I asked mall security if it would be okay if I ran when it's open for walkers... they let me, reluctantly.

I also live in a cold weather state (Michigan!). I bought some under armor, running tights, gloves, and a running hat (technical fiber) and just layered up. I hate running in sweaters or hoodies as the cotton makes me sweat way too much once I get warmed up. By layering up, I find that I can run pretty comfortably even during the winter months. My threshold is about 20 degrees and of course wind/snow also play a role. Any colder than that and I head to a treadmill or I just do some cross training since I truly hate treadmills. Best of luck to you!

well. wear in layers. basically have ur shorts and shirt. then wear a sweater and some light long sports pants. then as ur run your body should heat up enough that u can run without the top layer. you can also just go to the gym.

I love running in the snow, but you might not be up to it. Do you have a treadmill? If so, you're answer is simple. Run on the treadmill when you can't go outside, and when you get lucky and you can run outside, do so. If you don't have a treadmill, you should look into joining a gym. Almost every gym or fitness center has a treadmill, among other exercise equipment. Where I live, there are even some gyms that have an indoor track.
