How are you going to celebrate Diwali?

I am celebrating Diwali this year, any ideas to make is special?

    Its always good to see people opening up to new faiths and cultures..much appreciated.=] You don't become any less of a Christian by just visiting a temple to see what its all about. I am currently studying in a catholic school for the past 5 yrs(this being my 6th) and mass and liturgy are compulsory but it doesn't make me any less of a Hindu. I still pray and do puja everyday..celebrate each and every festival etc. Symbols of diwali? As im sure you know-the famous diyas..they bright up your house and we as a family always put rangoli outside our house to welcome Goddess Laxmi(The Goddess of good fate and fortune) We leave most of the lights on in our house during the eve of Diwali..so basically throughout the night and day. Btw did you learn hindi via bollywood or you are an indian christian?:$ hope you dont mind me asking. Anything not to do? Well they say you shouldn't wear black on Diwali as its bad luck and well to be honest you shouldnt really eat meat on that day either. And you said ur not gonna go to the temple but if u happen to, then they say u shouldnt go when its ur TOM. You can wear absolutely anything you want on Diwali but as its one of the major festivals in India, we all love to wear our new suits, whether it be salwar kameez, lengha. chruidar or even a saree! as long as its something bright we all love to wear it! With us lot, parents and uncle and aunties usually give us karchi(which means moneyy as a gift or like boxes of chocolates and we usually eat laods of mithai on the day too! lol(indian sweets) Its not necessary to distribute cards but here in the UK i often get them from my catholic friends:) and ofcourse we make lavish dinnerss hehe..all samosas..veg biryanis..khandvi..spring rolls etc. Ahh now im hungry! lol and also at night we make sure we have fireworks and stuff..my friends always complain they dont get sleep at night due to diwali fireworks haha (i live in the UK) and diwali this year is on 28th october. and i hope no-one is offended because maybe some of ya'll shud see the way india celbrates Christmas..it is WAYYY more than what the UK or the USA do!;) A very Happy Diwali to you in advance! why not put lights and colors around your house? It looks very beautiful that way. And if you really want to celebrate join a divali function. I'm already parting one.

very positive, go for it, be who u want. after diwali bathe in the ganges, visit mecca, go to stonehenge, consult the oracle of apollo at delphi, wander round the taj mahal, sleep in cheops pyramid, have a picnic in michu pichu, write poety in the shade of angkor wat, theres a billion other spiritual places to enrich you, i hope find them all.
