  • to calculate Tax Refund from your paycheck do you use the Totals YTD Amount or the TAXABLE GROSS YTD Amount???

  • Answer:

The only way to legally do it is from the W-2. If you are just estimating for fun, use the taxable gross.

The Taxable Gross should be the correct figure. Total YTD would include any pre-taxed items you might have through your employer. The safest way is to wait for your W-2 to make sure the employer does not make any adjustments before the final issue. But figuring it form your paycheck stub could give you a ball park figure.
