People who crack their necks all the time usually do so because the muscles are tightening up and it's a way of getting relief. It shouldn't cause any long term problem but the fact still remains there are tight muscles in your neck and they do affect other parts of your life without you knowing it so getting rid of those tight muscles is the best thing to do and you probably won't feel the need to continue cracking it if it isn't tight anymore. Here's how to free up your neck muscles: Neck Put your hands alongside your head so your thumbs are on the front of the muscle under your ear and your fingers are on the back of the muscle behind your neck. Squeeze your thumb and fingers together and hold. Relax your body. When your fingers and thumb touch, about two minutes, slowly lower your head as far as you can, release the pressure but hold your neck lowered for another 30 seconds. For best results relax your body first by taking a deep breath and exhaling then remain this relaxed.

Well I have never had cracking in my neck, but did have it in my knees. I started to get regular massages and the cracking is completely gone. You may want to try that, your can do the massages yourself or see a chiropractor or massage theorist.

I would recommend that you see a good Chiropractor, preferably McTimoney trained. Often these type of issues have a cause which can be fixed, also when you are paying to have this put right you are less likely to continue with your neck cracking habit. People often underestimate the value of Chiros but I have definetly benfitted from treatment, as have most people in my family.

might be a vertebrae problem ,have you tried a vibrator on your neck and between your shoulders you should have it checked , after all there is a thing called paralysis
