  • Answer:

Fawk no. UC riverside maybe but not other UC schools. You need at least a GPA of 3.6 or above to get in Irvine or Barbara. Maybe Davis but definitely not Irvine or LA. If you really want to go to a good UC school then maybe you should go to Santa Monica college or Pasadena College then transfer.

If you are a California resident, you are guaranteed admittance to some UC campuses if you go to a community college for two years. If you are determined to go as a freshman, definitely explain in your essay why your grades were down for a while. I did that and got into UC Berkeley (many moons ago). Emphasize your extracurricular activities and give a reason why you want to go to that school in particular. A few years ago, being Asian would have made it harder to get into some UC campuses because they tried to keep a racial and ethnic balance, but they can't do that anymore so that should not be an issue.

I'm sorry but I think your best bet are Cal Sates instead of UC. The UC system had gotten very VERY competitive lately and UCLA AND UC Berkley even require over 4.0 to get in. I have a GPA of 4.3 and I didnt even bother applying to a lot of UCs since I thought it's a waste of money to apply on a school that I'm not certain I'll get accepted in (60 bucks each). In fact, I wasnt even sure whether I'll get in to UCI or UC Santa Barbara. There are hundreds of other kids out there who have a higher GPA than me, and so you really have to put more extracurricular than the ones you have to make yourself stand out since your GPA is very weak. The easy UCs are Riverside and Merced, and chances are they will definitely accept you. Also, dont depend too much on the application essay coz some UCs dont even read those unless you are in the waiting list or you are borderline admit-reject. Unless you get a higher than 2100 on your SAT 1, then you can make up for your Cs and Ds. Also, since you are Asian, NEVER talk about your or your parents' difficulties as an immigrant, etc. since almost all Asians who apply to UC say the same thing. Also, don't blame anyone for your gardes (example: the teachers are difficult) It will just sound that you are making excuses.
