How does home schooling work?

  • Answer:

If you are independently homeschooling, you would follow the home education laws for your state/Provence. If you use a program, you would follow their guidelines and rules. Some say when students must study, others allow more freedom. However, homeschooling is not like regular school where you listen to a teacher lecture then do an assignment. Homeschooling is more independent. Depending upon your curriculum, your parents may introduce the lesson or topic, but you do most of the work yourself. Parents act more as a facilitator, giving help and guidance when needed but allowing you to do most of the work. If your mom works during the day, you will need to figure out a study schedule that works around her hours.

hard question to answer without more details. Who's decision was it to homeschool? Who is "they"? And what state are you in? It matters because state's regulate homeschooling, and each does it just a little different.

Well my mom works and I am homeschooled through PACE's and LifePack. So I get up at 8 take a shower and get ready for 'school' at 9 I begin with listening to some Christian music and just getting myself pumped for the day at 9:15 I begin with Algebra work for 45 minutes to an hour and take a 10 to 15 minute break then I move to my next subject English 1,then Etymology, then Biology, then Foundations for living, then Photography, and finally Gym for about an hour. I take my 30 too 45 minute lunch and breaks in between each class. Now depending on what type of homeschooling your doing will differ during this process. With A.C.E. I score my own work and my mom looks over it when she gets home. The only subject I ever have problems with is Algebra and first off theres plenty of things on YouTube but if I can't figure it out then mom will see if she can re-read the teaching script and know what I should be doing. You do have to motivate yourself though!

Ignore all of the answers that say things like "The mom teaches" or "It depends on the state". In reality, homeschooling parent(s) have to sign a few documents that say i am legally keeping my kid home from school and things like that, and then it is all up to the parent(s). My mom teaches me while my dad works full time, but i also attend an online academy and a twice a week "school" where i get together with friends who also homeschool. Some of my other friends are taught by their dad while their mom works, and some are "unschooled", where the parents let their kids do whatever they want, and they don't have to learn anything. If your mom is going to be your teacher, she might be leaving work, or getting a part time job and leaving you home alone. I would wait for the meeting with your parents to figure out how this is gonna go, because there aren't really any state- or country-wide rules saying you have to be up at 9 everyday or that your mom will be your teacher. Everything's different.
