Homeschooling teenager tips?

  • Im a home schooled teenager and i don't have much friends :( any advice on making new friends with out joining a club/Church and without going back to school?. And how i can ...show more

  • Answer:

Try volunteering at a food pantry, animal shelter, etc? If you're near a community college, you can take art or foreign language classes or whatever as dual-enrollment. Homeschooling, like any other type of schooling, has it's ups and downs, but depending on the curriculum used and the attitude of everyone involved, it can be a beneficial experience.

You'll have to do what grownups do to make friends. If you don't want to join a religious group or a club, try volunteering somewhere. Or get a job. Find something worthwhile to do where you'll be there on a regular basis and you'll soon make friends (plus you'll be busier and not worried so much about making friends). As for making it fun, figure out ways to learn without always being stuck alone with books. Find places to go to learn, find experiments or projects to do, make a movie about something you're learning, make a model to go with a period in history you're studying, or design a meal and entertainment for your family and/or friends that fits a place or time you are studying (can make costumes and make it as elaborate as you'd like), or whatever. Come up with some things that you think would be fun and interesting to do and find a way to fit them in with your studies. And find some hobbies to take up, things you can do when not studying. I'm a big fan of homeschooling. It can be the best education there is. Good luck.

I mean I make my friends through theatre. I don't know if that's what you consider a club. The best way is to do something you like. Join art classes or something like that.

The way to meet and make friends is to go out and do something you enjoy (work, play, sport, hobby, whatever) and there meet like-minded people. It may well involve joining a club or church - is that a problem? For instance, I love singing so I joined choirs; one was a church choir. Never mind! I met some lovely people!! My home-schooled daughter does voluntary work one half-day a week, meets other home-schoolers at a centre 2 days a week, goes to the local community learning centre a couple of mornings, has singing and ballet classes, sings in the church choir, 'plays' (she's 13) outside with the neighbors, goes to a youth club at the library and one in a church hall, walks the dogs and meets people that way, and now has taken up sailing so is befriending anyone who might need crew! Hope there's something in there that might appeal to you and help. Good luck I think fun comes from variety. Don't just sit with books or computer all day - get out and about. Arrange outings for yourself, not just to museums and galleries, but even just a field in which you study geography! Build in a few 'rewards'

Hey, I am home schooled as well. I use connections academy like Zachory. If you can't switch like he suggested, I think you should volunteer for some good causes, meet new people there. Get a job, you'll make a ton of friends if you pick the right job, take classes (i.e. dance, singing, acting, theater, instrument lessons) And you can make home schooling fun by planning field trips for yourself. I am a junior and I do! If you are studying something in science that you like take a trip to the science museum..ect... And I think homeschooling is AWESOME!!!! :D
