1) Do you think it's a good idea for children to start learning how to read before they start school? **Only if the child is interested in reading. It's certainly not necessary. However, pre-reading skills are very important, like book handling, matching, numbers, letters, colours, etc. Those are all skills that children need before learning to read. 2) Do you think parents are capable of teaching their pre-school children how to read? **Most likely are. The best thing parents can do is read to their children every day. Encourage the children to read along and talk about the books being read. 3) Why do adults read books for enjoyment? **Hm. That's a tough one. For me, it's an escape from every day life. A way to learn about or experience things I can't experience in my own life. I think everyone has different reasons. 4) Why do men and women choose to read different types of books? **Just because interests vary. My husband reads mostly non-fiction and I rarely get past a couple of pages in a non-fiction book. 5) What is the role of the Internet in reading? Does it help to encourage people to read? **I think it can. I mean, you have to be able to read to use the internet. It's just a different type of reading than reading books.

The earlier you start your kids reading the more advanced they will be. I have 2 year old and he is already reading. We let him watch those "Your Baby Can Read" dvds and they really do work.
