I operate a family daycare and some of the best places to source quality 2nd hand goods are schools and kindergartens when they are updating to new furniture etc or they sell surplus stock. Because the furniture they use is of the highest quality it usually lasts for years. It's extremely expensive to buy new, but if they are cleaning out they usually sell it for a fraction of the original price. Be sure to check current safety guidelines for old furniture such as cots and strollers for safe distances between rails, use of leaded paints and braking systems etc. Garage sales and newspaper ads are a good place to look for items when people sell stuff their kids no longer use or have grown out of. Make sure you only buy the quality brands and stuff in good condition - and clean and disinfect all second hand items thoroughly. Op shops and second hand stores are a great place to find linen and spare clothing, which it pays to have on hand, and if you want a children's table, pick up a second hand solid wood table and cut the legs off. Once you start looking, you'll find useful things in all sorts of places!
