I am probably a prime example of a student who did well in elementary school but went on to do terribly. My case is specific, but I'll try to talk about the general things that I observed and had other kids agree with me on: We didn't know everything anymore. In Elementary school, math was simply logical, there were few tests, and we had the time to actually learn everything in class. Upon entering middle school and high school, we were packing so much more into one year. We were expected to learn at home, and we were not prepared to do that. We figured out that the system was BS. As I grew older, I definitely saw that I wasn't learning anything interesting anymore, most teachers were terrible, and that this formal education wasn't doing anything. There was no joy in coming to school. I was only here for a diploma so I could go to college and get another diploma. Burnout. Through a combination of the above two, we just burn out and never come back. There aren't many more reasons I observed. There was no stress in elementary school, and when that stress came, people just froze. Some recover, but most don't. I don't think I have.

The younger a child is the more likely that their family is both stable and more heavily involved with their school work. Families with young children are still learning the value of teaching children to work independently and to complete homework independently. The younger they are, the more likely families are to ask children if their homework is completed and review what they've done. As children approach high school there are several factors that can lead to declining academic performance. More complex and strenuous schedule. Increasing academic demands. Parental recognition that the work should become more independent without teaching the skills to develop independence and work habits. Teenage attitude and rebelliousness that changes interest towards school. The possibility of family stress as parental relationships dissolve. If children haven't learned how to work independently and successfully in high school they won't do so in college. They also have to be personally motivated in college.

I have seen so many students do worse in high school and/or college. As my parents are teachers having 20 plus experience in teaching as well as coaching, I could point out few reasons: I. Distractions in life - Bad companions - Bunking classes, stealing money from home, bullying others 2. Broken families- Students could not concentrate on their studies 3. Immature love at the young age - Getting attracted to filmy style love at young age 4. Working parents - No love and care for the kids. 5. Teachers who are not passionate in inspiring the students to learn and grow 6. No individual attention from teachers to students. Teachers tend to focus on the creamy people who score high marks. What about the students who fail and score less?? I find these students who fail in the school and college have achieved much in life. (My personal opinion). Example - I have seen my dad making the students visit my home and asking why he has failed and what is the problem? Remember, he is not a subject teacher and he is a basketball coach and athletics coach. Sometimes students cry because fathers get drunk and beats all in the family. Imagine how a student can study in that family situation. My dad has found a way to help these kind of students. Besides, I have seen students complaining about the teachers as well. They just come to the school and ask some student to stand and read the book. That's it. End of the class. You can also add your experience and other points that are valid to this question.

If the child is doing well in studies at elementary level then expectations of parents goes up that overburdens child and he kept himself busy in optimising his performance under enormous pressure that is the main cause of the steep fall in his performance at higher level of education. So it is highly advisable for the parents to let their child to work and study at his own pace that would finally led them somewhere being honoured in future.

I was actually that student who did poorly in elementary school and did well in middle and high school (which I'm still attending). I personally believe that some students try so hard in elementary school that it get to the point where they're so unmotivated to try hard anymore. On the other hand, some students don't feel like trying in elementary school because it is pointless to succeed when their grades don't count for anything, and they try harder in middle and/or high school because those grades count toward college (not middle school though).
