you can get fired the first day if they want. some times things just dont work out. cut you lose's and look for another job. if they call back fine then you can work both jobs part time. if they dont then get more hrs from the other. or if the other is offering more hrs off the bat then ditch the first one. its all about you at this point.

let me say how fast food restaurants' rosters work. they employ hell lot of temporary or part-time workers just simply to stand in for absentees or unusually high business volumes. if the sales is normal or below par, the part-timers would be put on call, meaning no-pay off. often they employ those retirees who live on pensions n hv no financial burden unlike the young or middle-aged workers.

If you havn't worked for 5 days and if what the manager says is true, I say keep looking for a job that is more steady. One that you can count on for a regular check.
