How to tell if you may get the job from the interview?

How can you tell if a job is a scam on craigslist if you get the interview?

  • I applied to a few marketing jobs on craigslist NYC and I got a few replies but 2 I noticed had the same address, same floor but different websites and contact information.  It seems weird that these 2 jobs just happen to be in the same building on the same floor.  Any suggestions on finding out if they are legit?

  • Answer:

Rule #1 – if it feels like a scam, it probably is. Look for spelling or punctuation errors in your correspondence, vague details about the company or the job, lack of an email footer listing the domain, twitter or facebook page of the business, emails at odd times of day, evasiveness if you ask for a call back number or official email address or more information about the company, exorbitant or unrealistic promises of how much the job will pay, and so on. As it happens, right now there's a company on the same floor of my office that's hiring for two positions I'm also hiring for. It's not impossible. Just make sure you're paying attention if they call from a blocked number and say they need your social security number or bank account number before they invite you in…

's response is right on target. Additionally, I'd suggest not checking CraigsList for jobs. If it's not a scam, it's probably something you wouldn't enjoy. You're better off joining an industry-related association and meeting people through there.
