Can i run DC Trains on DCC Layouts?

As Samuai stated, if you follow his advice, albeit a lil more expensive, it can be done. however, some will disagree, but your layout should be built using a conventional dc wiring setup with gapped blocks anways. as certainly dcc can operate on this. it saves for having a two bus system, and at the sametime allows you to operate both dc and dcc type equipment. as for dc equipment, value is relative. they always been cheaper to own than dcc (even back in the day). As for resale though, dont be discouraged. dc equipment is just as wanted as dcc because of its pricing and availability of old models. some of which arent available now. plus older layouts i'll mention later. and as we all know, a dcc loco is truely just a dc loco with a controller on it. remove the chip and you have a standalone dc loco. another reason dc is still widely accepted is that alot of railroad layouts were built in the last 30 years using dc principles. i still operate on this principle and have no problems running both dc and dcc. one bus, and dc can be made to do both. it does however make for alot of throwing of elect switches, but the name of the game is fun. it certainly provides that! (Good, sound wiring is most important here!) actually im appauled at the prices of dcc equipment. and lately of the dc pricing aswell. this is the worlds greatest hobby. yet fastly becomming the worlds most expensive. yes the makers need to put food on their tables, and continue a great business, but i have yet to see any great advances that warrant rolling stock being priced at $150 to $300 for a single unit. it was only 20 years ago that same amount would buy you a consist of 10 locos (ACL purple Atlas fp7s for $25 all day long! NEW!), and good quality ones too. it makes me wonder how many of the younger generation who want to get into this hobby can afford to do so. while dcc has afforded us a new and more realistic way to operate, i think it has also ushered in the iherently bad control namely: the money game. keeping your rolling stock in original condition is best. much like any other hobby there are antiques. in years to come original dc equipment will be this way. and envaritably so will dcc in decades to come. for example a pre-war lionel altered wouldnt be as much as an original one, both of similar condition. the key is, as Samurai suggested, the layout wiring. you can run both types, use a single bus, keep your golden oldies original, and eat your cake too.
