  • Answer:

National Rail is the consortium of rail companies. National Rail is owned by ATOC. ATOC control all the ticketing in the UK - whereas the train operators control the ticketing PRICES. There is a list of Train Operating Companies available at www.nationalrail.co.uk The major Freight Operating Companies are EWS, Freightliner and DRS. There is a freight company called EPS which deal with Eurostar dealing.

We do not have railroad companies in the UK. The tracks are owned by a Governmant organiation, Network Rail and Train Operating companies operate trains on the Government rails, EWS is the largest frieght operator. Virgin one of the main passenger operators. It make no sense and does not work, as a series of crashes proves, Hatfield, Ladbrook Grove, Southall, etc
