2002 Suzuki Vitara automatic. When in park the shift gets stuck and will not budge. Took to mechanic?
-
Took to mechanic twice and can't find what's wrong. What do I need? I have to keep pulling and hit the shift before it moves. Would really appreciate an answer

Answer:
I could be wrong but the shift lock which is deactivated when you step on the brake might be malfunctioning. Put the car in park and pump the brake (while the engine is running) and listen. You might hear noise coming from the shifter as the lock tries to disengage. Try that and jiggling the shifter while pumping the brake might free it.
