How much per month does a pilot get?

How much pay does pilot get a month?

  • Answer:

First thing is don’t listen to what akropilot4life said. United does not fly 727s Delta does not fly 747-400s, there is no such thing of an airline called United Express and I never heard of a pilot making $360,000! Anyway here is the truth from a private pilot. Airline pilots start out with regional most of the time, flying a regional jet first year you will make around 20-22,000 after about 4-5 years of regional flying and making around $42,000 you will be ready to apply to a major airline or cargo airline. These pilots start off making around $55,000 and as you stay with the airline longer and fly bigger planes you make more money. 777 Captains at American make the most money, 747 captains at United make the most for their airline etc.. At the end if you made it all the way up to the 747/777/A330 type plane captain you can be making $155,000-$170,000 but only the lucky few make this type of money with most airlines. There are a lot of flying jobs besides for airline flying, but airline flying does pay the best at the end. Airline pay ranges from $18,000-$160,000 The best paying flying jobs are at Fed Ex, UPS and Southwest airlines in the United States. Sure there you go pilots really don’t make much money for what they do, but if you love flying it is just something you have to do. It takes a lot of skill and hard work to become an airline pilot, and at any moment your career can end because of a failed flying test or drug test, failed medical exam or a personal injury or even getting arrested. Becoming an pilot with an major airline takes a lot of hours at least 4,500 with 1,000 hours of turbine engine time Pilot in command. And you always have the risk of being fired or furloughed at any moment. Being a pilot is also considered the third most dangerous job in the world. (pilot not only commercial pilot)

In the UK pilot pay is much higher than in the US. A senior captain at British Airways should be making well over £100,000.

It depends on the company. Airline pilot salaries are fluctuating rapidly due to the bankruptcies, etc. of the major airlines. Check job advertisements for each airline to see what jobs are being offered and the salary. Typically, you can plan on earning anywhere from 30k to 50k as you begin---as you rise through the ranks and earn flight hours, you will earn more. As an airline Captain, you will typically earn over 100k. Good luck and remember, patience will go far in this profession. You may end up with a good position if you; 1) Have the patience to go through the process and earn your promotions----it takes time, and 2) Make wise choices as to your employers---initially you may have to take a job from a non-preferred carrier, however, once you earn some experience, you will then be able to make good choices as to the company you WANT to work for. Good luck, keep your head high, and research carriers to make good choices.

it all depends on what kind of pilot you want to be. Commercial pilots get lowwer pay, around 30k a year. Other kinds of pilot may get paid up to 50k, if you're a first officer for a major airline. When you become a captain, you earn from 100k-150k. The average ammount of payment for flight engineers, first officers, and captains is $135,500. It also all depends on what airline you work for too.

I'll repost an answer I wrote a few days ago: Airline pilot salaries vary a lot. Prior to 9/11 and a little after that industry changing day, a senior Captain at some airlines could expect to top out near $400,000, sometimes higher. Now, the average pilot at a major airline earns around $120,000, but that is not exactly representative of all pilot salaries today. A first year regional airline First Officer ("co-pilot") will earn around $18,000-$30,000 but a second year bump will put him or her around $35,000-$45,000. The highest paid pilot today can expect to earn around $250,000, mainly at the cargo airlines. With contractual pay raises, this figure MAY approach (I say may because the airline industry is an unpredicable beast) pre 9/11 levels. Personally, I believe this industry will suffer if pay levels do not increase on a broad industry level and not just at a few airlines. There will always be people who will give it a go considering the travel benefits, time off (anyhow the percieved time off), and the pay, which isn't the world's worst by a long shot (at the heavies anyhow), but when you have to "pay your dues" for five or six years before you make anything approaching the triple digits and you have $40k-$80k training debt and four to six years of education, that $70,000 starting salary desk job looks mighty attractive...
