How do I block specific web sites?

How do I block computer of visiting certain ip addresses and web sites ?

  • I know that there are some parental control on windows Vista. But are there any other sw that will block ip addresses and website ? Or there should be a device outside to do it ?

    If you know certain sites that you don't want to be seen by the user of the computer,click on the button Tools (right side of screen,below the toolbar),Internet Options, Security,Restricted sites,Sites. After that,type in the addresses of the pages that you don't want visited. Press OK,and after that,nobody will be able to unblock the sites or enter them.

If you're using a router, you can go into the router settings and block entire ranges of IP addresses that correlate to the sites you want to block. This is not for the uninitiated, but it's not too difficult either. Just get out the manual for the router you use and go to the section on blocking IP addresses.

Edit you host file and set the website to the address of 127.0.0.1 this will not permit the site to display. More information about host files can be read at http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/hosts.htm

It's possible, but a warning, if it is to block a teenager from getting into sites, there's no hope :P There's plenty of ways to get around it... And also, a teenager is highly experienced in the way of computers :P In any case, it's in control panel > internet options > and putting the address into the parts to be blocked by a firewall, or any kind of blocking thing you have.. Sorry im not much help, though. ♥
