I have been thinking of going into massage therapy for quite some time. I have been a stay at home mom since 2000. I want to start generating some income to help with expenses, but ...show more

Answer:
It is a great career, it can have flexible hours an the pay can be good depending on what you offer. You also have to remember that there are laws about practicing in your home. You also need someone to watch you child while you are doing massage. Building clientele is the biggest thing to worry about. Your best be is to work hours out with an existing spa which you can earn anywhere from 35% to 60% of the massage and if you are willing to do reception work or paper work you can also get paid that way. Until you get a bas clientele it doesn't pay as much as people are told, but it is still a wonderful career and well worth it in the long run.

The hard part about massage therapy is getting your clientele. If you take the course and are able to get your shingle out you can do it out of your home, you'll get your regulars and have a tidy little business. The thing is that if you don't have anywhere to network, you may have some difficulty with client-getting. (This is sometimes my big problem! I'm a work-from-home-photographer-mom I mean mom-photographer...you know what I mean! haha!) It's a great job. There is a big demand for it and you are providing a really good service. If your kids are in school, you might be able to do some half-days and have a more flexible schedule if you do choose to practise outside the home. Do some research in your area and find out what kind of demand there is. Talk to your profs about it too. And when you're done studying, I'll give you my number and trade services! :) (just kidding!) Good luck!

totally... you work where you want when you want...even in your home. to build up clientel it's good to start at a busy place like a spa, but if you have the money and know people go out on your own...it's the best way to work!
