How much time do you get off for maternity leave in the UK?

    Ok, you get 1 year off. The first 6 weeks are 90% of your earnings. Then you get 39 weeks at £117.50. Then you can take the remaining 3 months unpaid. So you get 9 months paid but are entitled to 1 year off. This is the mimimum you get, although some employers offer additional money (not my boss though!!)

hi it really depends who you work for, i will get 2 weeks at full pay, 4 weeks at 90% pay and the rest at smp. you can take a year off now but only nine months paid so last 3 months unpaid, depending on the company also will also depend if they hold your job open if you take the extra 3 months. mine will not they will only hold my job open for nine months then an alternative if i return after a year

i agree with yummy mummy. thats they way things are at the minute anyway. i will be taking off 9 months from the week my baby is due. i have 4 weeks holidays for next year too so i should be able to add them on to finish 4 weeks earlier or come back to work 4 weeks later. alotogether i will be off for 10 months hopefully.

Maternity Leave Options Ordinary Maternity Leave: Pregnant employees are entitled to 26 weeks’ ordinary maternity leave regardless of how long they have worked for their employer. Ordinary maternity leave is normally paid leave. During this period their employment contract remains intact and the employee receives all contractual benefits except wages or salary. Additional Maternity Leave: Women who have completed 26 weeks’ continuous employment with their employer by the beginning of the 14th week before their expected date of birth can take additional maternity leave. Additional maternity leave starts immediately after ordinary maternity leave and continues for a further 26 weeks. Additional maternity leave is usually unpaid. Compulsory Maternity Leave: A pregnant employee may not work for her employer immediately after childbirth. This period of compulsory maternity leave lasts for two weeks (four weeks if she works in a factory) from the date of birth. An employee resuming work after ordinary maternity leave is entitled to benefit from any bonuses or raise in pay which may have been introduced while she was on maternity leave. Sickness trigger: A woman’s maternity leave starts automatically if she is absent from work for a pregnancy-related illness during the four weeks before the start of her expected week of birth, regardless of when she has declared her maternity leave to start.

It has changed. You get a year off. 4 months of which should be paid in full but it may be in you're Ts & Cs that it drops need to look at you're contract. And then after its £70 a week. But you should def get a year off before you're contract is terminated. speak to you're M.D for further details with in the company

it is still 6 but you can have 9 at a lower pay
