Why is a triathlon the length it is?

I want to do a triathlon and i don't even know where to start!!!?

    Doing a triathlon is a lot of training, you can find one in general on active.com. I'm sure there are triathlon website where you can find more and get training advice. May even want to just look into doing a biathlon, which is usually run / bike / run especially since your not the best swimmer. I've done one of these before, it was fun but hard. Thing to remember is the biking is the most important b/c that is what your doing the longest. Also you'll have to spend a nice bit of money on a good bike if your serious about this and want to compete at a high level. Ex. if me and you are equal at biking and I have a $4000 top of the line bike and equipment and you have just a $1000 OK bike .......I'll beat you by a great distance over the 56 mile distance in a race. Just something to think about, running is cheap ..........finding a good bike isn't. Good luck though!

You should do what you are better at first. there are plenty of good quality bikes out there that you should definately look for. for swimming, umm......let me think. My aunt runs in triathlons and she should have some great advice. I'll get back to you....
