What path do I choose after engineering to prepare for the civil services examination?
-
I would be graduating in June 2013 from a tier-1 engineering college in India. I wish to sincerely try for civil services in the near future. But obviously, that needs at least a year's time since I will have to study subjects completely different from my current league (computer engineering). I am very confused about these options: 1. Work in the private sector for some years: As of now, I have a decent job with a service company. As if that was not enough to be unimpressed by already, it is also going to be a very demanding job, especially in terms of the number of working hours. I don't think I would be able to prepare for the civil services exams while at this job. 2. Sit at home and prepare: With no idea about how long the wait could be, I am not sure if this is a great option. Not only can it get depressing, it also means that if I decide to try for the private sector again, I would have to explain the gap and the failure. 3. Look for another job: I am open to this option but I am not a programmer. Although I come with good experience in entrepreneurship and marketing, those kinds of jobs are hardly available for engineering freshers, and if they are so, they are hardly exciting. Besides, they are time-consuming too. The better option here, however, are government jobsâwhich are again fewer for computer science engineers (only three PSUs for us). If you have any insight to share on any of the above three points, or have some advice to give for me to sort this out, please do share it. Thanks.
